Alfredo Pacheco Jr 966120 Posted September 19, 2006 at 09:32 AM Posted September 19, 2006 at 09:32 AM Hello Earvie, I hope Im understanding you corectly, but you are asking to know what to tell ATC when you are ready for IFR dept. IF this is so, then you would wait for a break, then say something along the lines of...example, "SOCAL TWR, UPS508, ready for IFR dept. to KSDF as filed." But first, check and read thru the PRC:Pilot Resource Center. That should clear up any questions about filing plans, and requesting with ATC. I belive its docomeents 121 and 122b. Hope this helped some
Michael Bonertz 966129 Posted September 20, 2006 at 08:29 PM Posted September 20, 2006 at 08:29 PM From what I am understanding you are wanting to know how to file an IFR plan through ATC and not actually filing a plan in writing. In real life and on vatsim you have to file a flight plan (FP) if its IFR conditions before you take off then you call and get your clearance and then take off before the void time (like stated in the previous post: "hey you this is me request clearane to the other airport...... as filed). 1. The other way about it is this you take off in VFR conditions and then weather gets bad and goes below VFR MINS and then have to file while in flight: hey you ie......app. cont or center this is me give location alt. heading fuel remaining in hours and minutes then tell them you went inadvertant IMC (IIMC)and ask for a IFR clearnace and vectors to where ever you are going. Goes something like this(IF ITS NOT TEXTBOOK ATC GUYS SORRY): SOCAL App. cessna 12345 I just went IIMC I am 15 miles north of (Navaid airport town etc....) altitude 4500 heading 270 1hrs 10 mins fuel remaining request vectors for ILS at small town airport. Cessna 12345 SOCAL App squak 1234 and IDENT altimeter 29.92. you do and then if your lucky you'll hear this: Cessna 12345 radar contact 15 miles north of (navaid, airport town etc... ) @ 4500' climb and maintain 6000 turn left heading 250 vectors for ILS @ small town airport. 2. You are flying VFR and want to do IFR training almost the same as number 1 but its for training purposes and it's not an emergency like above. This one is close to the first one you just call APP Cont. give location and alt. then tell them you would like to do an instrument approach and they will let you know if you cna or not. goes like this Small Town App. cessna 12345 is 5 miles south of Navaid, ariport, town etc... at 1500 heading 085 would like the VOR rwy20 approach @ small town airport. cessna 12345 small town app squak 1234 you do and then you should hear this cessna 12345 radar contact 5 miles north of navaid, airport, town etc.... climb and maintain 4000 turn right heading 150. 3. There are several situations in which you would or could do something like this but these two are probably the ones you would use most of the time. If you are on the ground file a plan then ask for your clearance. If in flight and you run into bad weather or want some IFR practice then you would file through ATC.
