If simple FS reinstall not help:

Uninstall FS, remove all files for FS ("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" and "C:\Docomeents and Settings\\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9"), then reboot and reinstall everything.

Are you running either IE7 or Media Player 11?

I'm running IE7 with no problems. I doubt that is the problem.

Appears that many people have had crashes due to the oleacc.dll file in FS9 folder after IE 7 or MP11 is installed and a quick fix is to rename (or delete) the oleacc.dll in the main fs folder to oleacc.old.

i to had the same prob. fs would crash during start-up. turns out i had installed some new add-ons. (can't remember what exactly it was, i install alot!!). and it had a conflict with the fsuipc i was running.i removed it from the fs9/Modules folder and fs booted fine. i had to get a new up to date fsuipc to solve the problem.
