Robbie Suwary Posted April 29, 2020 at 02:26 PM Posted April 29, 2020 at 02:26 PM Hello, What is the brazil unicom frequency? I heard it was 123.45, but I was departing Rio this morning and alot of pilots were using 122.8. I asked why they weren't using 123.45, and they insisted it was 122.8. Also what's the default squawk code in brazil? 2000 or 2200? I heard 2000 as they don't have radar . Thanks, Robbie
Andreas Fuchs Posted April 29, 2020 at 03:25 PM Posted April 29, 2020 at 03:25 PM (edited) In most places of the world the standard IFR SQ is 2000. It's different in the USA. Standard VFR code in the USA&Canada is 1200. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transponder_(aeronautics) I know that Brasil used to have a UNICOM frequency that was different from the standard of 122.800, but I could not find it either on the homepage of VATSIM Brasil. If in doubt, use 122.800. Bruno Koch Posted May 5, 2020 at 02:34 PM Posted May 5, 2020 at 02:34 PM I've noticed some information on VATSIM Brazil's training page was out of date, and it seems to apply to 123.45. I've been instructed by ATC to monitor 122.800 everytime I left controlled airspace in Brazil, and my ATC instructor also mentioned UNICOM as being 122.800. What I recommend is to keep your COM1 radio on 122.800 and your COM2 on 123.450, so you can hear pilots on the old frequency as well. VATSIM Brazil is currently working on a new training program that should clarify this.
