FSInn Nostalgia: Weather + Traffic Radar on vPilot?

Hi, returning once more to the wonderful world of VATSIM.

I managed to set me up and fly a couple of legs on the same day after a several year hiatus, which is IMHO an enourmous improvement on the VATSIM tooling and learning curve!

However, I am missing my radar window and the VATSIM weader sync.... any good freeware alternatives? Preferrably something onboard the cockpit.

(about weather, I am not interested in eye candy, just the matching weather to VATSIM).

I am using P3Dv2.

Hi Diego,

yes, there is, but it would mean a change of pilot client. If you enjoy a compact and minimalistic design like vpilot, this won't be for you. It's like Squawkbox vs. FsInn.

Figured so much... what about additional packages on top of vPilot?

Swift pilot client is compatible with all of the major VATSIM sim platforms, and includes the radar-esque functionality you're asking for.  I'm not sure about weather integration.  It's a bit more involved to set up, but has a great community of enthusiastic supporters willing to walk you through it.  They have their own subforum here and a Discord group that is very active.

Thank you for the recommendation, I initially resisted because - we must be realistic here - configuring the environment for online flying has a thousand variables and its not easy, especially when returning after a few years on the ground. my vPilot setup was working and I was happy.

Anyway, its good that I did - swift is a great option but it has way too many settings compounded by not enough defaults.

The swift weather engine is not good (i encountered a nasty bug affecting the engine performance of the Aerosoft A320). the radar function is great.

For now I am flying swift with weather disabled and using FSXWX instead.

Yes, the weather function of swift is only a last possibility for those who do not use a third party weather addon. We recommend using a better app to inject realtime weather.

swift is confusing and overloaded in the beginning, but after a few sessions you will get used to it and know exactly what to do, don't despair.
