Danie Horn 983532 Posted October 12, 2006 at 10:43 AM Posted October 12, 2006 at 10:43 AM Hi Guys... Totally new to VATSIM and I am desperately trying to get all the software and servers etc downloaded so i could start my training. I am in New Zealand and understand that the my sector is oceania. Can anyone please advise me on the exact software to download and how to install? I am now beyond desperate to get myself going on the controlling side. Once i have sorted that I also want to get flying as well. But the controlling gets priority. Please be patient with this noob... Hoping to hear from you soon. Norman Blackburn Posted October 12, 2006 at 11:05 AM Posted October 12, 2006 at 11:05 AM Danie, For controlling you need either ASRC or VRC. Many find VRC to be easier to use although it is best suited to multiple monitors. www.vatsim.net - in the left menu you will see a link for new ATC. You will need to do a little bit of training first - check http://www.vatoce.net (the website for your Region) for more details. Norman
Danie Horn 983532 Posted October 13, 2006 at 01:25 PM Author Posted October 13, 2006 at 01:25 PM Hey Norman Thanks for that. I have downloaded VRC Version 1.0.0. When I open it I select the default profile. I Log in as n observer and connect to the Oceania Server. Where do I go from there? I take it I have to load primary frequency? As an Observer how do I know what frequencies and aerodromes to select? I do understand that I will have to go through the process by starting at Clearance and work my way to Aerodrome and Approach control. But need to know what frequencies to set for the various positions to observe. And then finally, I saw a few Manuals online. Do I have to work through those or is there online training and do we get evaluated on the training. Once you completed the training does the process work like in real life where you have to validate on the various positions and get signed off by a qualified controller on that position? Your help on this is greatly appreciated. Are you controlling or flying? If controlling, what position and do you provide training? Are you also on the Oceania Server? Brian Fuller 973577 Posted October 13, 2006 at 02:14 PM Posted October 13, 2006 at 02:14 PM You can find their ARTCC from the VATSIM page. From there you should be able to find a Frequency listing of all the Positions.
