vPilot speaker problem

I had both ATC microphone and sound on my headset and FSX sound on external speakers for years, worked perfectly. This week, a friend visited me and, for him to be able to hear ATC on the speakers, I chanced the configuration in vPilot to "output device: speakers". I never should have done that :-( , because I can't change it back ?!!!  This is my current setting, but I hear nothing on my speaker. The volume of the headset speakers is up, because, when I blow in to the microphone, I hear it in my ears...so that's alright. When I change Output to external speakers, I hear voice perfectly. So it's coming in. I've changed configs over and over, rebooted multiple times...no effect....anybody an idea? Much appreciated.
