Dear pilots, this week the BGvACC would like to preset to you one of the busiest airports in the Black Sea region – Burgas International airport LBBG, which is the main tourist airport on the Black Sea.

Burgas airport is located in the southeast region of Bulgaria on the Black Sea coast and it is surrounded from the Burgas Lakes, Stara Planina mountain and the Black Sea. The airport is a Hot spot for all summer traffic for all the resorts in the south of Bulgaria. LBBG serves more than 72 airlines, from 132 destinations and 37 countries. Last year at Burgas airport passed 2,85 million passengers and the cargo traffic statistics are not lacking either making in one of the biggest cargo hubs in Bulgaria.

Burgas airport has one runway 04/22 (3200 m/10500 ft), which is the fourth longest runway in the Balkans. Runway 04 has ILS, but runway 22 has only VORDME and an RNAV and the approach is above the city of Burgas. The airport has 27 stand (19 medium stands, 4 heavy stands and 4 cargo stands). Usually it is very windy at the airport especially those coming from the north/northeast, making smooth the smooth approach a challenge for pilots.

Like before there is going to be a second airport with full ATC staff – Varna airport LBWN.

Follow the traffic on 5th of June 2020, from 16:00z to 20:00z
