Receiving on COM1 and COM2 simultaneously?

To all,

I'm very new to both VATSIM and xPilot, and I'm starting to learn my way around.

I had seen some comments about being able to receive on both COM1 and COM2 simultaneously (although only transmitting on one or the other), but I can't figure out how to do that with xPilot. I'm using the beta version with X-Plane 11.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Robert,

welcome to VATSIM! Our new voice software is simulating the use of "real" radio units, so you need to make sure that you select MIC/TX and RCV/RX e.g. on COM1 and RCV/RX only on the other set. On some aircraft in X-Plane this is not that easy, because they have their so called "DataRefs" programmed non-standard and as a consequence xPilot (and other pilot clients) have difficulties receiving voice-data.

What aircraft are you trying to get this done on?

Btw, if you happen to have the same frequency set on both COM1 and COM2, you will hear your own echo when talking, unless you make the non-transmitting COM go silent.

Thank you very much, Andreas.

So far I’ve only been connecting to observe in VATSIM, so I’ve just been using the default C172, which has the Garmin 530 set for COM1 and the Garmin 430 set for COM2.

I use Pilot2ATC to switch between COM1 and COM2.

I'm not familiar with how to set MIC/TX and RCV/RX on either the G530 or G430, and I don’t see that in the instruction manuals for the devices.

You have to locate the Audio Control Panel in your cockpit - that's where you control the assignments.

On the default Cessna 172 with the Garmin 1000 you will find it between those two screens:

In this screenshot COM 1 is used to TX and RX
