Hello all,

Was doing a flight later for the Gatwick Midweek Madness, but before it got busy I again had an hour spare so logged on way at the back at EGKK and took some snaps southside of 26L. Interesting variety and a descent flow of traffic, hope you enjoy the shots! In order of callsign A-Z as I didn't manage to put them in time order

Technically: sure, just connect your sim as observer, spawn at a suitable vantage point, and start shooting.

Legally: it's a bit of a gray area, you're hogging a connection without actually flying or controlling, and whether this is allowed according to the VATSIM rules is a bit debatable; there's been a little discussion about this on another one of these topics but personally I think it should be OK, if not for the letter of the law, then for the spirit.

Check out the discussion on his other recent planespotting post:

My opinoin: yes, as long as you're not leaving your connection unattended, nor observing for an "excessive" amount of time.  The upshot of the discussion on that other post is that whatever Network Supervisor is on at the time is the one who decides what's "excessive."  I think the overall tone of the discussion was that an hour here or there probably won't bother anyone.

Yeah, so basically, be a nice citizen, don't get into anyone's way, stay responsive, and you'll probably be tolerated doing this; and when you're asked to disconnect, do so and don't throw a fit.

Are you guys gonna have the same discussion on every one of OP's posts? If you want to be a SUP apply for it, otherwise I don't see OP asking for your opinions on if he is breaking the rules or not..

Like wise, I didn't see any one ask for yours. This is a public forum, any one is entitled to their opinions, weather you think they are valid or not, you are not the authority to decide weather or not a discussion should continue, unless of course you wish to be a sup, then apply for it.

Ditto. But I'm not trying to ruin some guys fun.

Don't recall ever saying I was trying to ruin some guys fun, more so seeking clarification on weather or not this type of activity is allowed, after all it is the virtual air traffic network not the virtual spotting network. If the OP had conducted a flight after taking screen shots or had just completed a flight then they would be using the netwrok for its intended purpose, however the title indicates that the OP logged in for the sole purpose of spotting. I dont think it is unreasonable to seek clarification on parts of the COC and this topic is simply the launch pad for such a discussion.

Opinions are subjective and just because they don't align with some one else's views does not render them invalid.
