Jeff Turner Posted November 8, 2006 at 03:46 PM Posted November 8, 2006 at 03:46 PM (edited) By early 2007, VATUSA hopes to successfully launch yet another Division-wide Training Academy, this one for pilots flying in the United States. Unlike the ATC Academy, this Academy will be strictly voluntary and any VATUSA member, regardless of rating, and total amount of pilot hours incurred will be eligible for enrollment. Several VATUSA ARTCC’S have their own local pilot training and certification programs which focus attention on specific requirements that pilot’s should know while in that particular airspace. The Division program however, will focus on the fundamentals of flight, as well as generalized VFR and IFR flight instruction using FAA based policies and regulations. It should also be noted that the creation of this Academy is in no way meant to take away from the resources available at the VATSIM PRC. Some of the proposed elements include network and software connection, ATC phraseology, understanding and interpreting FAA approach plates, aircraft instruments, flight maneuverability from takeoff to landing, flying the traffic pattern, VFR on Top, Special VFR, flying a SID and STAR, understanding and flying precision and non-precision approaches, just to name a few. VATUSA members, we want your help. We are looking to form of a team of individuals to [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist the Division in seeing that the Academy is open for business by early 2007. This team will be the primary voice as to what elements are covered in the Academy, how these elements will be relayed to the student base, the creation of lessons and examinations, and faculty recruitment. If you are interested in becoming a voice for the Academy then please send an email to [email protected] Be sure to include your name, CID, and any VATSIM/real-world pilot experience that you have. As information pertaining to the Academy is available it will be posted on the VATUSA website, so check back often. EDIT - Note the change in email address for requests of interest... Stephen Keskitalo 977981 Posted January 11, 2007 at 02:44 AM Posted January 11, 2007 at 02:44 AM Has this idea been abandoned? I sent two emails to the email address in the first post (first one Nov. 30, second Jan. 4) and did not receive a reply to either of them. Seems awfully rude to not give any reply. It would be nice if pilot training is still being developed.
