Flights between Europe and Oceania are the longest ones on our planet. Many of them used what was known as the Kangaroo route, which always required a stopover on the way. But with the advent of modern airliners, the dream of ultra-long-range routes are becoming a reality.

In 2018, Qantas' Project Sunrise captured the attention of avgeeks around the globe, and promised to usher in a new era for airline flights.

You know what's better than that?

What about attempting a flight like this on VATSIM, with enroute ATC and full event ATC services on departure and landing?

What would be a better place to start our flight than a sunny Mediterranean island where many Aussies are enjoying their vacations away from the winter cold?

This weekend, join us and fly from the famed Balearic island of Ibiza, and bring the Aussies back to their homes down under, Direct.

Need more reasons to fly? Here are some of the highlights/POIs we will be seeing:

Mediterranean islands (Balearic Islands, Sardinia, Aegean Sea Islands, Cyprus)

Mesopotamia, and the Gulf islands

Australian Outback (Uluru / Ayers Rock, Lake Eyre...)

 

Can't fly the whole route? No problem! Tell us when do you want to fly, and we will work to get you onboard.

Briefing Document (Including route)

 

Length of the route and the runway in Ibiza will present constraints. Please be sure to review information in the briefing document before you fly.
For all questions and planning discussions, join our discord!

The briefing document, including route and other info you need for the event, will be made available soon. In the meantime, we will provide any information and assistance you need through discord.

We will do the route planning for you and provide procedure briefing on request, no matter where you plan to depart / land, if you submit this form by 2359z Friday.
After that, connection routes from major intermediate airports will be included in the briefing document.

 

A route discussion / event briefing will take place at 16z Friday, in our Discord. Procedure and weather briefing will also be included, as well as a small workshop on the Eurocontrol IFPS system, using our route this time.
