Hi everyone,

I was wondering for the map, how can we know which flight simulator is being used by the planes/ATC we see on it?

Regards,

DD

Hi! We currently don't track that information, so that isn't possible I'm afraid..

Does it mean it mixes all flight simulators?

Yes sir! VATSIM is independent of your flight simulator - regardless of which simulator you're using, you'll see everyone in other simulators as well. 🙂 Cool, right?

Indeed! I know it's a lot to learn and grasp, that's why we're here! 🙂

Actually, it‘s a bit more than that even.

Pilots may use whatever simulator they have, the VATSIM pilot clients connects them to the same network with everyone. Me flying XPlane and you flying MSFS2020 is absolutely no problem, the clients do the talking between them and the server and back of position reports, altitude, speed, etc.

Controllers use a different software for ATC, be it VRC, EuroScope or one of the others. But we connect to the same network as well and the clients do all the talking between each other and the servers.

Now where actual TALKING is concerned between pilots and ATC: As a controller we open up positions with an associated frequency. If you tune your radio to that frequency, your pilot client will put you into the correct voice channel based on your proximity to our ATC station. And thus, we‘ll be able to talk to each other.

This is all done by our pilot and ATC clients and the network‘s server structure. We just have to fly.... or ATC 🙂

There are several programs that will show you the current status of VATSIM, meaning where all pilots and ATCOs are at the moment of checking.

My favourite program to do this is Qutescoop

But there is also a very popular app called VatSpy

If you prefer to use websites to show you this data, you can check Vattastic v2 https://v2preview.vattastic.com/

Or the VATMM VATsim Mobile Monitor: https://vatmm.org/

And there are quite a few other services available.
