First, are you able to properly connect to the network? If so the client will display a yellow messaged with something like «connected to network...». Do you get that, or a red warning?

When you say you "start VATSIM" can you confirm that you mean vPilot? 

And when you say "No one is there" -- did you check VAT-Spy or VATtastic or map.vatsim.net or some other tool to confirm whether that was actually the case?
