Raphael Roberto Posted October 30, 2020 at 12:16 AM Posted October 30, 2020 at 12:16 AM When I am going to fly a VFR at an airport in the USA, and I only have the Center online, there is no TWR, APP, do I need to ask for authorization for the Center? Sorry for the English
Andreas Fuchs Posted October 30, 2020 at 12:06 PM Posted October 30, 2020 at 12:06 PM Yes, please contact the CTR controller and ask if he's responsible for the airspace you want to enter. ATC normally provides "top down control". Daniel Mckee Posted October 31, 2020 at 02:05 AM Posted October 31, 2020 at 02:05 AM Most of the time (if not all the time) in respect of VFR flying, ATC is not interested so long as you stay below certain altitudes. But yes just make initial contact as a matter of courtesy. At least that way ATC can confirm your position.
Robert Shearman Jr Posted November 1, 2020 at 01:08 AM Posted November 1, 2020 at 01:08 AM It's not "certain altitudes" -- it's outside of Bravo, Charlie, and Delta airspace. Use SkyVector.com to see where the boundaries are. It may take a little research to figure out what each marking means, but, the information is freely available. 1 Cheers, -R. Andreas Fuchs Posted November 1, 2020 at 10:40 AM Posted November 1, 2020 at 10:40 AM I highly recommend LittleNavMap (freeware), because it does show those airspace boundaries AND you can connect it to your simulator to monitor your current position or even create a flight plan and follow it. https://albar965.github.io/littlenavmap.html Cheers, Andreas Member of VATSIM GermanyMy real flying on InstagramMy Twitch streams of VATSIM flights and ATC
