The VATUSA Training Academy has been in operation since the middle of April 2006. We have graduated 75 students, 47 of those in the last 3 months. We have over 250 students currently enrolled. From the feedback we have received from the ATM's and TA's at the ARTCC's the graduates are generally well prepared and the training time needed at the ARTCC to move these graduates up through Tower has decreased. We are very grateful to the ARTCC's for their support of the Academy and we continue to count on that as we look to the future. We count on that feedback to help us continuously improve the way we train students here at the Academy.

While we are doing well, the increase in students means we need to setup a system where we can rotate teachers through the Academy. In order to optimize our training schedule we are looking to maintain approximately 18 teachers on staff. Why 18 teachers? With 18 teachers we can hold 2 of each cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] per week and limit each teacher to 1 cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] per week. We know that things can sometimes come up in a teacher’s personal life so the 18 includes 2 standby teachers that can step in for an instructor if he can't make it on a given day. We only want teachers to stay for 2 months, return to their ARTCC to see the results of their work there. We also hope that you will encourage your colleagues to teach here also.

Why teach here at the Academy? Most teachers come here to give something back to a hobby they love and to see VATUSA continue to succeed. My instructors spent many hours training me at my ARTCC so I came to teach here at the Academy, to repay them in some small part, for all their hard work. There are certainly many reasons to teach here at the Academy but the biggest reason is to invest in the future of VATUSA. The future VATUSA controllers are here at the Academy and this is where you can really make a substantial impact on those future controllers and the future of VATUSA.

So we are, again, asking for your support by volunteering to teach here at the VATUSA Training Academy. For more information please contact the Deputy Training Director, David Kluempers ([email protected]) or the [Mod - Happy Thoughts]istant Academy Director, Cornell Lloyd ([email protected]). To apply fill out the Academy Faculty Application at http://www.vatusa.org/training/teachapp.htm.

Thank you all for your support and dedication.
