sai rane Posted November 28, 2020 at 01:08 PM Posted November 28, 2020 at 01:08 PM (edited) Hey, I'm a noob looking to get started soon. I've heard some different information about whether or not to include SIDs and STARs in the flight plan I file...so my question is basically should I include them or not? From what I heard I can i https://1921681001.id/nclude the overall name of the most appropriate SID but not the specific one I would be using (e.g. putting just ULTIB instead of ULTIB 1J), is that true? I'm flying mostly in Europe if that's relevant. https://19216811.cam/ Edited November 29, 2020 at 08:32 AM by sai rane
Board of Governors Simon Kelsey Posted November 28, 2020 at 01:42 PM Board of Governors Posted November 28, 2020 at 01:42 PM (edited) Honest answer: frankly this is so far down the list of things to worry about it's completely insignificant! There is no real right or wrong answer. In real life, there is no hard and fast rule. Some countries (USA, Germany spring to mind) specifically prefer you to file the SID or STAR. The UK used to request that you file from the first to the last significant point on the route (e.g. ULTIB T420 TNT for a flight from Heathrow to Manchester) but this has since been removed from the AIP and in real life now you will see a mixture depending primarily on the brand and configuration of any particular airline's flight planning software.
