XSB 2.1 audio not working with XP11.50 on Ubuntu 20.10

XSB 2.1 was working fine for the most part, so I suspect an Ubuntu update may have impacted Alsa or portaudio, or some other bit.  I don't consider myself a deep technician in this area but hope you have some thoughts on which components could be rebuilt, reinstalled, etc.  Here are some Ubuntu syslog messages that show up as soon as I attempt to 'Setup Audio' in 2.1 after starting x-plane, prior to connecting to Vatsim plus an attached x-plane log file.  The mic input level 'bar' moves for a few seconds then hangs.
