Graham Mitchell 984314 Posted November 29, 2006 at 09:28 PM Posted November 29, 2006 at 09:28 PM Hi everyone, Took part in the flyin to Birmingham EGBB on Sunday 26th November. What a great night to fly. Took off from Frankfurt at 8PM with ATC. Pity there was no ATC between leaving German airspace until the channel. Put into a hold at LOGAN fro about 20 minutes, got clearance to Daventry (DTY) where I was put on hold for about 15 minutes, got clearance to GROVE where I was holding for about 30 minutes. A slight mix up where I did not get a hand off to Birmingham approach (understandable with the volume of traffic). When I got clearance the approach was good. Apparently, over 90 aircraft landed in EGBB between 18:00 and 22:00 hrs. Not bad thats about 1 aircraft every 2.5 minutes. At 22:00 there were still plenty more aircraft in various holds. I landed at 23:00. There was a prize draw where every pilot landing between 18:00 and 22:00 and there names put into a hat for a prize worth about £300. Clearly I missed out on the chance but I would not have changed my flight for anything. As real as it gets or what ! Many thanks to all ATC and pilots (frankfurt and UK) that made this flyin possible. From servinfo it appeared that the whole of the UK had coverage. More events like this please. Although I can see that the prospect of getting a prize may attract people to the event and is the possible reason for the success, this is not why I do it. I love to fly - perhaps I should get a life ? No answers needed. Happy flying Regards Graham Mitchell (GB-1159)
