Flying as observer

Hello,

I've completed a few really great flights in vatsim and I - just out of curiosity - was wondering if it is possible to do a complete flight in observer mode. I'm asking because sometimes I might not feel like getting into all the stress ATC brings with it, but still want to have some radio chatter in the background while flying patterns at an airport. So I could get used to some local accents and procedures without interfering with anything.

As long as I am in observer mode, others cannot see me and I won't disturb anyone, is that right?

cheers,

Matthias

Yes and no. You won't appear as an aircraft to pilots or a blip on the ATC's scopes but you will show up in their observer window. It could be viewed as a violation of VATSIM CoC A9 as you are not actively participating in the network if you're flying as an observer without talking to ATC or other pilots.

You won't be disturbing anyone if you want to fly patterns at an airport. Controllers love having traffic!

The spirit of the network is to fly online with other people. If you don't want to actively participate that day, perhaps consider flying offline and use a third party ATC addon for the radio chatter.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Forever and always "Just the events guy"

I totally understand the spirit of the network. I just wanted to get used to some local procedures like typical taxi routes etc. before really flying online and ending up in everybody else's way. As I do not want to act against any code of conduct, I'll refrain from flying in observer mode and either fly online or offline. Thank you for your answer.

Oh, and as far as I am concerned, this topic can be closed or deleted.
