I'm a total newbie. This is kind of hard to explain since I don't really know the right terms. I'm trying to figure out how to operate the computerized directional screen in the FSX Boeing 737 cockpit. I think it's called an MFD. It's the one in the middle between the attitude indicatior on the left and the engine screen on the right.

I'm trying to follow the "Flying on VATSIM for Dummies!" by Tom Flanary (http://laartcc.org/tf/tutorial.pdf). On page 5, he describes the PEBLE3 departure from KSAN. First he says to tune NAV1 to the MZB VOR as one will have to track R-293 as part of the departure. Then near the bottom of the page he says to set the NAV2 radio to the Oceanside OCN VOR so one can see when he p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]es the OCN R-170 on the RMI. I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume the RMI in the Boeing is somehow part of the middle computer screen I described above.

OK, I know how to tune the NAV2 but I can't figure out how to see when I p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] this radial on NAV2. Every control I can find is for NAV1. The omnibearing course selector is for NAV1. The middle screen I describe in my first paragraph seems to only show navigational info for NAV1. I can see OCN tuned on VOR2 in the right hand bottom of that screen but the pointers are all for NAV1. Is there some button to push to switch to NAV2? Or am I just not understanding how to interpret the display.

I've been through the help docs several times but am at a total loss. Hopefully I made enough sense that some one can guide me and help me clear things up.

Thanks for your help!

After looking and looking for two days, I finally gave up and posted the above message. Then right after posting, I stumbled across the PMDG (whatever that is) website. (http://www.precisionmanuals.com/html/downloads.htm). I have no idea what this site is but in their docomeentation area, I found a PDF file that explained the guages. I found that if I set the display to "center map mode", the a green indicator points the bearing to the NAV2 VOR.

Now it makes sense and I have (almost) successfully flown the PEBLE3 departure from KSAN in stand alone mode.

Thanks for the ear.

PMDG is one of the best addon makers out there. Their aircraft are very realistic. Every thing in the FMC is functional. It is amazing. Unfortunately Microsoft neglected to put in the FMC with the default 738.
