Did I get kicked because of flying a f-16? (Solved)

Hi community,

I'm a total newbie, regarding vatsim and aviation in general.

Yesterday I have been flying a f-16 through this route in X-plane via xPilot:

ROAH N0100A100 KYANN AH801 ESKOB HATAX HIGAB ADDAN LEXUS IHEYA FOCUS ZAKMI GELMA LAVON OLVAL VIGER BLISS ROAH

But I was disconnected even before take-off. I thought it was a network issue so I tried to re-connect right away, but sometimes xPilot said the servers didn't reply, and other times my connection got disrupted again after a few moments.

I recalled there're things about military operations in the Code of Conduct after the flight, but I was just doing a "sight seeing" IFR flight around the Okinawa islands. I chose the fighter jet because it's a new addition to my hangar and it's faaast....

I'm not sure if I broke any rules, and I'm very sorry if that's the case. The airspace covered by the route was all un-controlled, and I was sure there were no other aircraft nearby. I hope my flight didn't disrupt or confuse other pilots or ATC.

Kind regards.

What message came up in xPilot when you were kicked?

Hmmm, I can't recall the exact message, but it just said I'm disconnected IIRC.

....and how many FPS does X-Plane produce for you, on average and in this situation?

About 30~40 I think? That's my usual FPS, and I was not really paying attention to the FPS number because it never occurred to me that it may be the cause, but I didn't feel any lag at all. Will try to check that if something similar happens again.

Okay, you probably know already, but if not: if your FPS drop below 20fps for more than a few seconds, xPilot will warn you of that situation and eventually disconnect you from the network.

Yes I'm aware of that, but thank you anyway, will keep an eye out for it 🙂

xPilot didn't give me any warnings despite the disconnection messages during that flight IIRC.

So I assume I didn't break any rules by flying a f-16 with that route?

I'm afraid that little bird has to be grounded until I get a positive answer 😞

No rules broken there about flying an F-16 with an IFR flightplan.   Only rules are around simulating real world conflict situations or Military activities such as AAR etc which you weren't.

It's likely a connection issue, particularly if you didn't get:

- a message from a SUP telling you you were doing something against the CoC or
- an email post flight from advising on why you'd been disconnected

Give your flight another try.

As stated above, the rules do not forbid any particular aircraft types, only types of operations, and the only way to moderate that is by manual effort, so you can't get kicked automatically just for trying to log in with an F-16. The only things that can possibly get you instantly auto-kicked are using one of the small handful of banned callsigns, squawking 7500, and (maybe, not sure if that's done) tuning to or trying to transmit on the GUARD frequency.

Also, if you were disconnected for a rules infraction, you would have been contacted online by a Supervisor (or above), and then would have received an email describing the issue.  I see no evidence that anyone did anything to disconnect you, so it must have been some problem in the internet connection between your machine and the VATSIM servers.

That's not moderated any differently than UNICOM, at least to my knowledge. I always monitor guard on my flights if I have a spare radio and have heard people on it before (only once in an emergency situation, other times people were just goofing off).

Cool, thanks for all the detailed clarification!

I think I'll try it again sometime, carefully 😉, paying more attention to the FPS number and network connectivity.

Oh, right, I didn't mean that it's actually done, just that it would be technically possible / feasible as well as in line with VATSIM rules.

We can't auto-kick people for flying F-16's, because the rules don't forbid it. We can't auto-kick people for performing military flights, because there is no reliable way of automatically checking whether a flight violates the special operations restrictions - even flying an F-16 between two military airfields could still be allowed. But we could auto-kick for things like tuning to GUARD - we're not, but we could.
