Craig Moulton Posted December 30, 2006 at 07:08 PM Posted December 30, 2006 at 07:08 PM Gerald R Ford Memorial Flight Date: January 1, 2007 Time: 21:00 - 0:00 To commemorate the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing of the 38th President of the United States of American, Gerald R Ford, a special memorial flight will be flown out of the Washington DC area (DCA, IAD, and BWI) to Grand Rapids Michigan (GRR) This is a Non-Political, Non-Partisan flight to celebrate the life of a man who was only 1 of 43 people in history to have sat in this seat of power. Departures should be conducted between 2100Z and 22300Z. The flight itself should only be about an hour in length for most of today's P[Mod - Happy Thoughts]enger Jets. Space will be tight at GRR, so if you don't do a quick turn and leave, we must ask that you do not stay connected to the network sitting at that airport for too long. The route of flight out of all three airports can be found at Simroutes.com and the route is the same for all three: BUFFR J518 DJB J34 GRR Please come on out if you have the free time in between bowl games, food, and family. Please remember that this is simply to honor President Ford, and is not the place for political commentary and or remarks. Fly Safe! Have Fun! Luke Kolin Posted December 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM Posted December 30, 2006 at 11:30 PM 1 of 42 people, remember Grover Cleveland? He was twice the man any of the others were. Cheers! Luke ... Eddie Trent 992360 Posted December 31, 2006 at 07:52 PM Posted December 31, 2006 at 07:52 PM Having met President Ford (great conversation on the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing of Ronald Reagan), and living just a few miles down the road from him, I DEFINATELY will be there (flying the colours of my native South Africa)
Craig Moulton Posted January 1, 2007 at 06:31 PM Author Posted January 1, 2007 at 06:31 PM This event is going to kick off in a matter of just a few hours (2100Z), so get your stuff ready! Craig Moulton Posted January 1, 2007 at 11:32 PM Author Posted January 1, 2007 at 11:32 PM I just wanted to express my thanks to the folks of ZDC, ZOB, and ZAU for staffing up for this short notice event. I flew the flight (AAL203) without incident, and with ATC from bottom to top, and back down again. My only hiccup was a SB3 hang for about 1 minute while on the vector for the approach, but that p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed and the rest of the flight was normal. Great job to all those (sometimes overwhelmed) controllers who made this possible. I dare say that GRR has not seen so much traffic in a single day! Fly Safe! Have Fun! Brian Beach 915973 Posted January 1, 2007 at 11:55 PM Posted January 1, 2007 at 11:55 PM I'm not sure GRR sees ANY traffic most days! It was nice to control so many people for their descent (that was it), so repetitive.
