benjamin heidelberg Posted January 30, 2022 at 06:09 PM Author Posted January 30, 2022 at 06:09 PM The vstars application data folder does not exitst! please reinstall vstars. that does not fix it for me. neither does the checkbox when installing only running as admin fixes it for me. Ross Carlson Posted January 30, 2022 at 06:18 PM Posted January 30, 2022 at 06:18 PM When you run it as admin, do you have to enter the credentials for a user with admin privileges on your system? Ross Carlson Posted January 30, 2022 at 07:59 PM Posted January 30, 2022 at 07:59 PM That's why ... vSTARS stores its configuration data in user-specific folders. So when you installed it as the admin user, you also have to run it as the same admin user. benjamin heidelberg Posted January 30, 2022 at 08:19 PM Author Posted January 30, 2022 at 08:19 PM even though it is in installed in a non admin account.
Ross Carlson Posted January 30, 2022 at 10:38 PM Posted January 30, 2022 at 10:38 PM Yeah, Windows has a very annoying "feature" where if you install an application as an admin, and you enter the credentials for a different user, the application installer runs as though you were logged in as that user and thus it stores the application's data files in that user's personal file area. Then, when you run the application later as a regular user, it can't find the files, because the files are in the other user's personal file area. So if you run the application as an admin, and enter the credentials of the same user that you used to install the application in the first place, it works fine.
