Martijn Joon Posted February 11, 2022 at 05:51 PM Posted February 11, 2022 at 05:51 PM Hi! I’m planning to cross the Atlantic from Ponte Delgada (LPPD) to St. John’s (CYYT). Europe to/from North America I know I have to use NAT’s. But are there any special operations from LPPD? regards, Martijn
Torben Andersen Posted February 12, 2022 at 08:21 AM Posted February 12, 2022 at 08:21 AM (edited) NATs are generally or travelling between Northern Europe and Eastcoast US. As LPPD is nowhere near, NATs are not in use here. As a sidnote - flying from Scandinavia you would normally fly north of the NATs on what's called a Random Route (random here meaning you make the route yourself. And this is what you will do here. Depending where the NATs are placed for that particular day, you even might not have to cross the NATs, so I would simply plan a route containing waypoint for each 10 degrees longitude like TIMTO - N40W030 - N44W040 - N47W050 - NICSO - (YYT) Many sources talk about the NATs, but not about random routes. Perhaps Shanwick/Gander OCA could elaborate on this also. Otherwise the ultimate documentation is https://www.icao.int/EURNAT/EUR and NAT Documents/NAT Documents/NAT Documents/NAT Doc 007/NAT Doc 007 (EN) - Edition v.2022-1_eff Jan2022.pdf Edited February 12, 2022 at 09:11 AM by Torben Andersen Torben Andersen, VACC-SCA Controller (C1)
