Stein Carlsen Posted February 27, 2022 at 12:03 AM Posted February 27, 2022 at 12:03 AM Hello all, What is common use when flying on Vatsim regarding weather? Is custom or real world weather used?
Jack Deeth Posted February 27, 2022 at 01:55 AM Posted February 27, 2022 at 01:55 AM I couldn't find an authorative source, but it's your choice, real-world weather or VFR CAVOK or different times of day or different weather entirely. There is a convention for stating this in the REMARKS section of your flight plan, but I don't know what it is.
Robert Shearman Jr Posted February 27, 2022 at 02:26 AM Posted February 27, 2022 at 02:26 AM Plain language is fine. There isn't a standard notation that I'm aware of. Cheers, -R.

Torben Andersen Posted February 27, 2022 at 02:11 PM Posted February 27, 2022 at 02:11 PM Real weather or VATSIM weather is absolutely the best. As Lauri's post implies, if you have your own weather, atc is completely at a loss. During events I would say don't use own weather, at low traffic periods, you can ask atc to accomodate you, but don't count on it. The most common practice I'm aware of is real weather. Time of day is not normally of any use - we don't close airports at sundown :-) Torben Andersen, VACC-SCA Controller (C1)

Lauri Uusitalo Posted February 27, 2022 at 07:06 PM Posted February 27, 2022 at 07:06 PM For example Active Sky provides Vatsim weather to Simulator. Usually using real weather setting is same or close enough.

Very unlikely On another note, VATSIM weather is a bit of a misleading term. VATSIM "weather" is simply just a built in reporting service via the client (.metar EGLL) for example that reports the real world weather from services like NOAA. It may be slightly out of date. Active Sky can pull specific METAR data from the VATSIM weather reporting service, or it can grab it directly from official sources, which it does for winds afloat data for example. TLDR: VATSIM and real world weather is the same thing Liesel Downes she/her/hers
Kirk Christie Posted February 28, 2022 at 02:54 AM Posted February 28, 2022 at 02:54 AM Basically VATSIM has to wait for the weather to happen before it can provide you with the weather. 1 Kirk Christie - VATPAC C3 VATPAC Undercover ATC Agent Worldflight Perth 737-800 Crew Member
