Gabriel Fernandez Posted March 14, 2022 at 07:32 PM Posted March 14, 2022 at 07:32 PM In fact, there is no way to know exactly which gates are available at a given airport. Only when you are connected to the ground is it possible to know. When I connect to a gate that already has another aircraft, I simply disconnect, change my position and connect again. You can take a look at vatsim's online map to check the ground movements, but it's not that accurate, but maybe it can help you. https://map.vatsim.net Speaking of arrival, if there is online traffic control, it may or may not assign a specific gate for you. You can also ask ATC which gate would be best for you. 1 GABRIEL FERNANDEZVATBRZ Division Director, VATSIM Americas VATSIM Network Instructor - SAM FSS [email protected] Vatsim Brasil

Luka Stevens Posted March 15, 2022 at 03:10 AM Posted March 15, 2022 at 03:10 AM Some subdivisions also have a live map available with occupied gates. Here is an example from Belux vACC https://beluxvacc.org/gate-manager/ 2 LUKA STEVENS Belux vACC Training Director [email protected]
Andrew McCabe Posted March 15, 2022 at 09:08 AM Posted March 15, 2022 at 09:08 AM (edited) As mentioned above, provided people have "crash detection" off in there sim, there is no harm done by connecting and if necessary slewing or reconnecting at another gate. However, another couple of options : If you use something like Little Nav Map or Aivlasoft EFB, the ground maps are populated with Vatsim traffic, so you can see where everyone is before you connect. Alternatively, you could initially connect in Observer mode ( vPilot ) , which means you will be invisible and not impact on another aircraft should they be at the same stand. Simply then reconnect at another gate in standard mode. Andrew Edited March 15, 2022 at 09:09 AM by Andrew McCabe typo
