FS9 Not Starting Up

I'm not sure where to go from here.  I recently reinstalled FS9 onto my PC as I had a hard drive go bad and have a new one in.  Unfortunately the OPS on my last one was WIN7 Home Premium.  And since we all know that's not supported anymore, I had to go to WIN10. I checked with some on the FB group and there were people running FS9 on WIN10, so I wasn't worried.

But now, after installation (and the update), nothing is coming up.  I have tried several things:

- Run in compatibility mode (the system initially put it in Win XP (SP3), but I changed it to WIN 7.

- Run as admin

- Run the compatibility troubleshooter and click the previous version, click "Test the program" and...........nothing.

Did I miss something?

Hi David,

I am running FS9 on Windows 10, no problems. I am using the FS9.exe version that runs without the CD in the drive, maybe give that a try.

PS: I found this at Microsoft's Help Center

The reason FS9 does not work is because disk 4 contains a form of security which Microsoft no longer considers secure (possibly macrovision?? - not sure). When you run fs9 the application tries to run CD4. At that point you will probably see an error in the event log about "secdrv". This is where the security is failing.

Then download the FS9 no cd patch which will allow you to start FS9 without CD4 inserted. There are a few places you can get it but here is one......

One other thing. FS9 doesn't like running in full screen mode in Win10. After launching press "Alt+Enter" to switch to window mode. Stretch it to the full size of the screen. It should remember this next time. Maybe it's time to move to X-Plane !

Thanks for the info!  I've downloaded the patch and will install it.  I've just finished with FSX Deluxe install.  SWIFT is coming soon.
