[GUIDE] How to run EuroScope and the AudioForVatsim Standalone Client on Linux.

I managed to get EuroScope and the AFV Standalone Client fully working on my install of Artix Linux, and found that the way I set it up should work for any distro with wine-devel, wine-mono, and winetricks in their repositories. I've decided to detail how to do so below. They might work on an Intel Mac or an Apple Silicon Mac using Rosetta, but I don't have a Mac, not a MacOS VM to play around with the Native X86 version, let alone using Rosetta to emulate X86 on an Apple Silicon Mac.

 

1. Install wine, wine-mono, and winetricks from your distribution's repositories. You might have to enable 32-bit support on your system to do so. Check your distribution's documentation/forums for how to do so.

2. Run winetricks from the terminal, select the default prefix, and select Install a Windows component or DLL

3. Install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2, then exit winetricks

4. Download and install the MS .Net Framework 4.0 Runtime Offline Installer* from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net40

5. Download and install MS .Net Framework 4.7.2 Runtime Offline Installer* from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet-framework/net472

6. Download and install every X86 and X64 Visual C++ Redistributable** from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist

7. Reboot

8. Install EuroScope and the AFV Standalone Client, alongside any plugins, controller packs, and/or sector files as required by your division***😎

9. Configure EuroScope and the AFV Standalone Client as you prefer. They should work as if native.

 

Your mileage may vary with this, and it's never guaranteed that it will work. I do not take responsibility for any damage you may do to your install of Linux or to your hardware by following these steps. I just posted these as they worked for me in my case and may help you in your's.

*Your mileage may vary, but I have found that these installers work better like this than from using winetricks.

**These may not be 100% needed, but I would recommend installing them just in case.

***Bear in mind that the ~/.wine/drive_c/Users/<username>/Documents directory is a symlink to ~/Documents.
