Richard Jenkins Posted January 30, 2005 at 07:57 PM Posted January 30, 2005 at 07:57 PM Received notice today that several of the financial backers for USA-W are no longer interested in continuing. The cost to the remaining backers is too great and they can't contribute the difference. With that in mind, USA-W will be taken offline on or about the 24th of February. Jim Johnson 814050 Posted January 30, 2005 at 08:24 PM Posted January 30, 2005 at 08:24 PM That's too bad to hear . Thanks for the update Richard. At least we've still got S1. Jim Johnson VP - Membership (VATGOV12) j.johnson(at)vatsim.net
Richard Critz Posted February 1, 2005 at 04:19 AM Posted February 1, 2005 at 04:19 AM At least we've still got S1. For now. There's no guarantee it will stay in place either. Because of the many different jurisdictions and pricing models, there is no exact way to put a value on what VATSIM's infrastructure costs each year. The best one can do is estimate based on what some of the currently commercially hosted boxes cost. If you do the math, and these are probably conservative numbers, the network costs in excess of USD $25,000 per year. Just food for thought...
