The last Tuesday of every month will be Military night…

With controllers commencing training as well as pilots keen to try out operational flights, the Military RTS of VATSIM-UK welcomes you to participate in one of our monthly evening events…this is what we have planned already…

Tuesday 30 January

We are opening up RAF Leeming and RAF Marham. Controllers in training need pilots and so to offer the chance to get to grips with some of the basics, we are opening up two airfields for short hop flights between the two. Fly an operational or civilian route in between – maybe go low level along the East coast or climb out over the North sea for some general handling under London Mil Control…

Tuesday 27 February

The skilful flying of our tanker pilots will be put to the test again…We will have at least one VC10K tanker over the North sea or maybe off the coast of Cornwall…! seeking chicks from either RAF Marham or RAF Leuchars (both airfields will be staffed by ATC as will London Mil). Fly between the two and see if you can get to grips with both the R/T coordination (over TeamSpeak with the Tanker Pilots) as well as the flying skills needed to take on fuel…Any and all AAR capable aircraft are welcome – fighters, transport or even Nimrods. FSNav routes will be available for those who want them…

Tuesday 27 March

Ever flown low level through the Welsh Valleys…this busy area in the UK needs your careful attention when planning your flight, mountains, airfields dotted along the UK / Welsh border, VFR pilots catching the views…RAF Valley and RAF Shawbury will be open for you to travel to or from and although close together, offers any pilot a challenge. For the rotary pilots amongst you, why not try a VFR flight from the home of RAF Helicopter training (RAF Shawbury) and visit the Hawk trainers at RAF Valley…? A great area to fly in, especially with good VFR scenery…

RAF Marham, Valley and Leuchars are the Military RTS controller training airfields - our controllers need pilot support to get them trained – more controllers trained = more airfields open more regularly…!

Also make sure you watch out for the Spring events – we are hoping to liaise with our VATSIM colleagues and coordinate flights from the UK to Gibraltar and possibly Cyprus with ATC at all ends…if you have any suggestions for a Military event, please get in touch or make a post on the forum…!
