Topi Tarkka Posted July 3, 2022 at 01:10 PM Posted July 3, 2022 at 01:10 PM (edited) Hi, so im new to Vatsim and just got a quick question. I mostly want to fly in Finland, and there is often just a EFIN_D_CTR which covers the whole country. Does that mean that when i fly in that airspace that this 1 controller controls everything inside that airspace? For example, i want to fly from Finlands main airport Helsinki to a smaller airport, does EFIN_D_CTR control everything, from Helsinki ground and departure to landing in a smaller airport? Thanks in advance, im currently trying to build up the courage to fly my first flight, but i gotta be honest im pretty nervous 😄 Edited July 3, 2022 at 01:11 PM by Topi Tarkka
Alistair Thomson Posted July 3, 2022 at 03:18 PM Posted July 3, 2022 at 03:18 PM Welcome, Topi! VATSIM has a top-down control system, as you thought. Whenever possible (eg. not too busy) ATC will cover all the controlled positions below the one being controlled. Note that small airfields without ATC facilities will not be covered, but if they have ATC normally, but just not currently being manned on VATSIM, these will be covered from above where possible. 1 Alistair Thomson === Definition: a gentleman is a flying instructor in a Piper Cherokee who can change tanks without getting his face slapped.
