John Stockton Posted July 10, 2022 at 11:34 AM Posted July 10, 2022 at 11:34 AM (edited) In regard to GA flying, with GPS guidance being so common, do we still try to fly on airways (IFR). Lars Bergmann Posted July 10, 2022 at 12:30 PM Posted July 10, 2022 at 12:30 PM It depends. In some places direct routes are allowed, even preferred, in others you have to stick to airways, sometimes there is FRA, but not for arrivals into a certain field, sometimes cross-border directs are allowed, sometimes they aren't, etc. (This has nothing to do with GA flying, it also applies to commercial aviation.)
Alistair Thomson Posted July 10, 2022 at 12:47 PM Posted July 10, 2022 at 12:47 PM And with FRA becoming increasingly widespread with it's savings in flight times and ATC workload, there may we'll come a time when airways are irrelevant. But not yet! 🙂 1 Alistair Thomson === Definition: a gentleman is a flying instructor in a Piper Cherokee who can change tanks without getting his face slapped.
