Jochen Tuchbreiter Posted August 19, 2022 at 04:17 PM Posted August 19, 2022 at 04:17 PM Hello guys, when flying I often notice vastly different sound volumes between all Pilots and Controllers. At the same time I felt insecure about the quality and loudness of my own transmissons. Of course I did radio checks with controllers but I don't want to start out every session with a radio check. I wonder if it would be helpful to have a kind of audio check / echo bot on a dedicated frequency. It could record transmissions and then play them back immediately. This way pilots could hear their transmissions exactly like they are received by other participants of the network, including all factors, even packet loss on flaky connections, regardless of which client they use etc. Was this ever considered / discussed? Maybe it could help to improve the avg audio quality of participants?
Dustin Rider Posted August 19, 2022 at 04:35 PM Posted August 19, 2022 at 04:35 PM There already is a version of this for pilots. Tune both COM radios to the same frequency, typically 122.8, and make sure the receivers are on for both. When you transmit on one radio, you should hear that transmission back, but slightly delayed, on the other radio just as any other user on the network will hear it. It's not exactly the echo bot you're asking about, but it's a pretty easy built-in method of running this test.
