VATUSA Events Mailer

Are you one who feels that he/she is always out of the loop when it comes to the happenings in VATUSA? Are you a Virtual Airline Events Manager that wants to keep his/her members informed about VATUSA Events? Are you an ARTCC Staff Member that wants to get last minute info out to the pilot community about your Event that is happening Tomorrow?

If you are answered Yes to any of the questions above, then have we got a deal for you! Sign up for the VATUSA Events Mailer! Users may subscribe to the list by visiting the VATUSA Events Mailer link in the Main Menu of the VATUSA Website under the Pilot Tools section on the left. This is a moderated mailing list and all subscriptions will need to be approved by the list moderator and then activated by subscriber when the confirmation email is received. This is an informational mailing list only, and will not be used as a discussion forum, meaning that it is a "Receive Only" mailing list.

This new feature offered by the VATUSA Events Department is a mailing list which will be used to send out a weekly email containing all of the VATUSA scheduled Events for the coming week. In addition, it will contain any last minute information that the ARTCC's want to disseminate to the membership.

Virtual Airlines may also take advantage of this service by announcing their upcoming events to the VATUSA membership as well as the ARTCC's in which these events will be held. To be included in the next weekly mailer, VA's must submit their event info to the VATUSA Events Director (mail to vatusa5 (at) vatusa (dot) org and include "VATUSA Event Mailer" in the subject line) no later than two weeks (14 days) prior to the scheduled Event. Please include the date and time of the event, as well as a short description of the event and any links that pilots can go to in order to get more information.

This mailer may also be used to send out "Special Announcements" to the list membership as events warrant in order to bring you important, last minute details/info.

This Weekly Mailer will be sent out each Friday containing information about what is happening in VATUSA in the coming week. Virtual Airline Events will be included below the VATUSA Info provided these events are happening within VATUSA.

"Extra" editions will be sent out as needed when deemed appropriate to disseminate last minute info considered vital to the success of an immanent event.

Craig,

This is a fantastic idea. I'm very interested in being a part of this mailing list. My only question is:

- Will I only be receiving email sent out by Vatusa Events staff, or will I be receiving ALL emails sent to the mailing list? I [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ume the former is true, however the form used to sign up for the mailing list leads me to believe that the latter might happen.

Examples: how to send mail to the entire mailing list, and asking if I want to receive daily digests.

Can you please confirm this for us to avoid any confusion.

Thanks in advance,

Ian.

You will only get mail sent by the staff (me). The list is moderated and only those messages that are approved will go out. We have no intention of approving posts from the list membership, and any info that needs to be disseminated should come through my virtual office (vatusa5 (at) vatusa (dot) org).

So, to be clear, the only spamming will be coming from me, or possibly VATUSA1.

Do those on the FNO list need to sign up still?

Nick, yes, the FNO list is dedicated for the FNO event (correct me if I'm wrong here Craig)

You are correct Glenn. This is a separate Mailing list. The FNO mailing list is for FNO Participants to communicate ideas. This is informational only and will include all events, not just FNO.

The first weekly email was already sent, so it is likely that anyone else who signs up will not get anything until next week's release. Anyone, however can use the same sign up link to view previous posts.

I'm glad to see this ... well done!

Will the weekly regional nights be included in the mailing, showing which ARTCC has focus each night?

Ross,

Yes, the email will basically pull the info off the Events Calendar. The difference will be that if an ARTCC has added info that they'd like to have sent, they just need to get that info to me prior to the Friday before "the week of the event". I say it that way, because the info contained will be for events between the coming Sunday through the next Saturday. For the regional nights, if you guys want to add specific info to the event calendar (which will be pulled for the mailer), please submit that info into the Event Calendar for that day and I'll delete the "generic" spotlight announcement for your specific plans as posted. I've already done this with a couple of the upcoming regional nights, and it is no problem at all to accomodate.

If you are running an Event on a Saturday, and you'd like one more shot at getting information out, you can write to me and request that your information be added

I also want to ensure that VA's know that they can include their upcoming events, but I'll need at least 14 days lead time. The reason for this is to ensure that the affected ARTCC's know about your event, and can plan the manpower needed for those events. I will need a rough estimate on participation by your VA, and "if" we get a series of false alarms, then we may look twice at your request before it is added again.

We (VATUSA) want to get the Regional Nights back on track, as they have been faltering lately, and we see this as one way to work toward that goal.

Thanks Rich...

I'm barely keeping her kicking. I have had a promotion, and with it a change of schedule from swing shift to day shift. My online time has gone down the [Mod - lovely stuff]per, and until I get used to the new routine and find the time to do what I used to do, it'll be "rough".

My apologies to all of VATUSA for my absence!
