Tyler Smith 864159 Posted February 22, 2007 at 12:54 AM Posted February 22, 2007 at 12:54 AM Billy- Welcome to VATSIM, first of all. You can find all charts for the US sorted by airport at http://www.myairplane.com. As far as the best airport to listen to controllers at, you should download this program called ServInfo. It will show you which airports have controllers and also a visual display of where all the aircraft are. You can use this to decide which airports are staffed at any particular time and then head there to listen. Also- I would reccomend check out the PRC if you haven't already. It's a valuable resource, and you'll find that it will answer almost any question you may have. Hope this helps you out some Tyler Smith
Jeff Jones 913898 Posted February 22, 2007 at 12:57 AM Posted February 22, 2007 at 12:57 AM Billy, If you are looking for charts you could try www.avsim.com or www.myairplane.com They have great charts and diagrams. As far as just sitting at an airport and listening to ATC, take your pic. If you don't have it already, download and install ServInfo. It is a great program that shows you a map of what positions are online for the entire world. Just look at the map, find an area that is being controlled, and jump into FS at an airport that the controller is responsible for. Please, please, remember to spawn in at a gate or ramp. DO NOT log onto the network parked at the end of a runway or even on the taxiway. Controllers really don't like that! You can fly pretty much anywhere you want. Just remember a couple of things....if ATC is online you much receive a clearance prior to moving your aircraft if you are IFR or are operating within Cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] B or C airspace. If you are flying VFR at an uncontrolled field or are flying IFR with no ATC online, then tune to unicom (122.80) and announce your intentions via text. Keep in mind that these are just generalized(no specifics) statements and intended to reflect USA policies. Other parts of the world may have different policies. If you haven't already done so, the Pilot Reasource Center has great information in regards to your first flight. It can be viewed at www.vatsim.net/prc Also, just for future reference, posts like this one would be better suited in the "Pilot Talk" section of the forum. But anyways, welcome to VATSIM!
