Richard Ruminski Posted February 25, 2007 at 10:12 PM Posted February 25, 2007 at 10:12 PM (edited) Members of the Anchorage ARTCC will be conducting a guided tour of the Knik Glacier on Sunday March 11 2007. This VFR event will start at Anchorage (PANC) and proceed North then East to the Knik Glacier and Lake George. After a tour of the Glacier and Lake George the flight will end at the Palmer (PAAQ) Municipal Airport. We will provide the VFR sectional map and flight plans for FSNavigator and FS9 GPS. Please choose an aircraft that can cruise comfortably at 170 Knots like the Baron 58. There will be two tours. The first departs Anchorage at 1800 ZULU and the second at 2300 ZULU. The flights are approximately one hour long. Jim Guyett 922733 Posted February 28, 2007 at 03:29 AM Posted February 28, 2007 at 03:29 AM That was my favorite place to fly when I lived in Alaksa. Nothing like a quick trip out of Birchwood up to the Glacier, on a good VFR day over the top to Alyeska and up the arm back to BCV... Richard Ruminski Posted March 10, 2007 at 01:13 AM Author Posted March 10, 2007 at 01:13 AM We have been getting a lot of requests from single engine aircraft wanting to participate in the tour. So for all you 172 and similar pilots, simply ask the Tower controller to place you at the end of the departure list. Truth be told, being at the end of the tour will be the best place for viewing all the VFR traffic. Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted March 10, 2007 at 11:27 AM Posted March 10, 2007 at 11:27 AM Ric, Do you need any more controllers? I think we should be fine on controllers, but it will be interesting to see how everything turns out in Palmer (the end of the tour)...because that is an uncontrolled airport, so we will not be staffing it.
