OPM vs. AT-SAT

Hello All,

I'm wondering about the differences in the OPM and the new AT-SAT. I took the OPM in 1998 and did fine...went thru the Academy and did fine and worked as a developmental controller for a while (ARTCC)... I resigned in good standing (personal reasons, long story...all ATC work/records are good) and have been thinking about trying to get back in. I've talked with the FAA about it...if I can get reinstated I won't have to take the AT-SAT (this is being looked into), but if I have to go thru a general announcement I *will* have to take the AT-SAT.

So, I'm wondering about the differences. Would very much appreciate any input. The OPM didn't bother me at all...but I like pen and paper testing (yeah, I'm weird ). I know the AT-SAT is computer based (don't get me wrong - I love computers, but hate testing on them...even for my pilot's license I hated it).

I've got the ASA ATC Career Prep book/software that has the AT-SAT practice testing on it. Has anyone used this to prepare for/test on the AT-SAT?

It was all so many years ago I'm having to really dig back into all the regs. I was SO happy to find this website! And excited to get back into aviation!

Thanks in advance!

K. H.

My understanding is that there were some discrepencies in the way that questions were worded / presented on the OPM that made the test biased towards certain groups of people.

Here is some basic info on the ATSAT.

Areas Covered:

Prioritization

Tolerance for High Intensity

Composure

Planning

Execution

Thinking Ahead

Taking Charge

Reasoning

Decisiveness

Problem Solving

Visualization

Working Cooperatively

Numeric Ability

Working with Angles

Movement Detection

The total maximum time to take AT-SAT is 8 hours.

Included in this testing time are two scheduled 15 minute rest breaks and a maximum 45 minute lunch break.

I have a good bit more information that I can send you, but that i cannot make accesible over a public forum such as this. If you would like it, you can send me an email at

Hope this helps!

Another website...

www.atccti.com

The forums are excellent. It's primarily geared to those going through the college programs, but there is information for you too I'm sure.
