Johnnie Cardwell 1003090 Posted March 20, 2007 at 02:15 AM Posted March 20, 2007 at 02:15 AM I am having a small problem trying to connect to Vatsim. Here is what I have done so far. I created an account and received an ID of course. I then downloaded FSinn and Advanced Voice CLient. I followed the directions on connecting the advanced voice client using Vatsim's directions as best as I could but could not connect. Under the Connection block, there was no "server" or "room" to choose from. This is as far as I could go. Im currently using FSX and Windows Vista 64bit version. I tried to install Squakbox but the software could not recognise my Flight Simulator. I am stuck and am asking for your help. I also tried following the links regarding FAQs but i keep getting links to how nice people need to be in Vatsim; however, after two days, I am completely stuck. I just don't know what else to read. I do see Fsinn and fsuips in my pull-down menu of FSX. Thanks in advance JC
Alejandro Lon 1003088 Posted March 20, 2007 at 07:14 AM Posted March 20, 2007 at 07:14 AM Alright bro... here's the walkthrough... Uninstall everything but your FSX and get Copilot 1.6 +FSinn Only. Install Copilot first, then FSinn, FSinn has voice included so you won't have any trouble. Once you install that go find a little program called servinfo, it's not completely necessary but you'll love it. With servinfo connect to VATSIM and choose "ATC Overview" or something like that... there should be a lot of flags, click the country in which you want to fly, try to choose an airport with a tower controller, tower controllers are depicted with a little yellow tower, take note of the ICAO code for the airport of your choosing. go to www.vatsim.net/prc and click on "Get charts", look for your airport and download and print the airport ground chart. Once that's done, go to FSX, settings, and turn off all traffic, maritime, land, and more importantly air traffic (so it doesn't mix up with your vatsim signal). Go to "Free Flight", choose the airport that you chose before, CLICK ON ACTIVE RUNWAY AND CHANGE THAT TO ANY OTHER GATE, you should NEVER spawn on an active runway. Choose your plane, it helps if the plane's callsign is the same as the one in your vatsim. click on the copilot icon on the bottom right of your taskbar (looks like a bunch of dots, red green and yellow), click on settings, voice, vatsim, and choose a key to transmit, either on your keyboard or your joystick. now, click "Fly Now" on FSX, after a while you'll be on a runway. After you've spawned, press the Right alt key on your keyboard, click on "add ons", click on "FSInn" or "copilot" im not sure. then click FSInn control panel Im sure about this one... it'll compile the planes and you'll have a menu. follow this tutorial to set FSinn up in case you didn't yet. http://www.vatsim.net/prc/ , look to the right "Flash tutorial, first connection". Once you've set up, click on where it says "VATSIM" it should turn green and you should get a brief tone on audio, then, right from the FSinn button click on the C to turn it into a yellow S, (or leave the S), that is sqwawking Standby. Now click on the black button next to ATC, it'll pop up, choose "ATC List" and look for YOURAIRPORTSCODE_TWR, or something like that, click on it, you should be able to see the frequency. Tune that freq on your FSX radio stack, if you don't know how to tune do the tutotirals in FSX, once you've tuned, if you don't hear anything press your transmit button and say " YOURCALLSIGN YOURAIRPORT tower Radio check", Example "Hotel-Bravo-one-one-niner midway tower radio check". And the cool ATC guy will answer you... welcome to VATSIM, where you need to be an IT specialist to understand the software!!! for your first flight go to the Pilot resources page and read up. Hope that helped. -Alejandro [EDIT: Ohhhhh Snap!!! I didn't see you were using vista!!!, all the instructions above apply to Windows XP, try them maybe you'll get lucky if not, there you go, a tutorial for when you give up on vista and get XP again!! :D:D]

Johnnie Cardwell 1003090 Posted March 20, 2007 at 04:11 PM Author Posted March 20, 2007 at 04:11 PM Well....i tried the steps and looks like Copilot 1.6 will not work. When loading FSX, FSX tells me that the program named FSCopilot has stopped. I did some further research and it looks like I have to wait until fscopilot 1.7 comes out. It looks like it is in the near future. If this is wrong, i hope someone will let me know and that i did an error on my end.
Alejandro Lon 1003088 Posted March 23, 2007 at 02:58 PM Posted March 23, 2007 at 02:58 PM You should look for Vista related threads... I've seen a couple of people here with Vista machines so they managed to get it to work somehow.

Robert Vanderkam Posted April 25, 2007 at 09:06 PM Posted April 25, 2007 at 09:06 PM Hey, how are you guys doing? Have you got these problems solved? There's usually so many people willing to help out here. I wonder if anyone is reading the stuff here. May I suggest posting your questions in the main forums for Pilots instead of in Pilot software help? I'll monitor this forum so let me know here if things don't work out. Ps. I realise this forum is located under "Members helping members" and the Pilot talk and Controller Talk forums are listed under General Announcements, but there you go. I see more people getting helped over there than over here. In fact, do some searches in the other groups for your problems and see what you come up with. Larry James 901346 Posted June 16, 2007 at 01:02 PM Posted June 16, 2007 at 01:02 PM I haven't ever seen this as a symptom. What are the specs of your system? OS Firewall/Antivirus (version) FSinn Version I would recommend you start out by using the latest FSinn (which happens to be beta, but it's more stable and easier to support) http://www.mcdu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4363 . If upgrading to version 1.3 do a clean uninstall of both FSCopilot and FSInn1.3 before upgrading. -- L. James -- L. D.
