Nikolas Wagenknecht 923270 Posted March 31, 2007 at 10:49 PM Posted March 31, 2007 at 10:49 PM Well if it is chosen down here in South Florida, we have 3 airports to choose from... KPBI - The kinda far but low cost carrier airport. KFLL - The nice low cost carrier airport. KMIA - The more expensive airport. There are many cool hotels down here and it won't be as restrictive as Vegas with the 21 or older rule. I am sure hanging out at the Seminole Hard Rock could be fun where you don't have to be 21 to gamble as well as hang out there And staying at the Westin, hotel right by the beach, perfect place to uhh.... you get the point http://www.starwoodhotels.com/westin/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=1402 ZMA Training Administrator
Michael Oberg 855611 Posted March 31, 2007 at 10:54 PM Posted March 31, 2007 at 10:54 PM I guess people are missing my point. ALL OF FLORIDA is a spring break destination. I lived there for 16 years. Once again your talking more money and completely booked flights(which again all the cheaper seats will be sold out). I worked for American at MCO for many years. We have a long time to make up our minds, but please see my intent. I would like to see a great turnout next year and as per my original post I gave my recomendations. Mark Polston 810032 Posted April 2, 2007 at 08:37 PM Posted April 2, 2007 at 08:37 PM Looked like a fun convention this year. Wish I could have made it out, but the finances and time of college held me down. Looking forward to the voting for next year's convention so that I can possibly throw in a plug for Atlanta Nice pic's as well Ric. Anyone have more? Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted April 2, 2007 at 09:36 PM Posted April 2, 2007 at 09:36 PM I'd love it to be in the northeast since that is where I am, but to be honest, I think the best choice for the convention is in Dallas, like Michael suggested. I believe the main reason the convention had a lower turnout this year was because it was so far west. If it was on the east coast, it would alienate the west-coasters, much like the LAS convention did to most easterners. Having it in Dallas means it's in the central United States, as well as the rest of the reasons Michael pointed out. Plus...I can fly ATA there from LGA to MDW, then connect on ATA down to DFW...(okay I'll be honest that's the only reason I want it in Dallas ) Nick Bartolotta - ZSE Instructor, pilot at large "Just fly it on down to within a inch of the runway and let it drop in from there." - Capt. Edward McCoy 904185 Posted April 6, 2007 at 05:15 AM Posted April 6, 2007 at 05:15 AM Ok all these people saying Dallas. But not mentioning reasons of why they think it would be good. Other than Nick mentioning it's in a good location as far as in the middle of the country. So why not Houston then? St Louis? Minneapolis or Detroit... The list goes on. There are many more centralized locations other than Dallas... Edward J. McCoy Albuquerque ARTCC DATM

Scott Bickford Posted April 6, 2007 at 11:06 AM Posted April 6, 2007 at 11:06 AM I had just been to Las Vegas to see Def Leopard and Journey making it an overall expensive weekend. I think if it was held during the summer more would of shown up. At the SATCO summer convention a fair amount of people showed up. Even the first VATSIM in Toronto was a good showing. Did anyone have that week off from school? Scott Bickford
Nicholas Bartolotta 912967 Posted April 6, 2007 at 12:26 PM Posted April 6, 2007 at 12:26 PM Ok all these people saying Dallas. But not mentioning reasons of why they think it would be good. See Mike's post earlier on page two: I had made my sugesstion at the convention. Being we have had it in the Western and Central regions already, I suggested DFW in the Southern. From a "RW" airline employees point of view, my reasoning is this: 1. DFW is not a spring break or tourist destination, therefore flights are easier to get as well as cheaper. (cost is the major factor) 2. DFW/DAL is a hub for 3 major airlines, including Southwest, the no.1 low cost carrier.(no thats not who I work for) 3. There are several "reasonable" hotels within minutes of DFW. Plain and simple, I believe we didn't have the attendance this year due to the EXTREME cost of the location (LAS). not to mention it left out our 18,19 and 20 year olds that might have come, due to having to be 21 or older for a hotel room in LAS. just food for thought Nick Bartolotta - ZSE Instructor, pilot at large "Just fly it on down to within a inch of the runway and let it drop in from there." - Capt. Ricardo Campos 889087 Posted April 7, 2007 at 03:43 AM Posted April 7, 2007 at 03:43 AM I'm sure that you could probably get in touch with the guys that did the ZFW Conference, and find out where they did it and how much for. They had reasonable attendance from far distances attesting to how the Dallas-Fort Worth area is easily accessible by air. However, *SHAMELESS PLUG* If you want to help rebuild a tourism industry, you can always do it in New Orleans!! Ricardo L.
