Mark Richards Posted May 1, 2007 at 11:52 PM Posted May 1, 2007 at 11:52 PM In order to allow a more stream-lined and progressive promotion system for VATNZ Controllers, effective from TUESDAY 15th MAY 2007 the positions that Controllers will be able to provide ATC Services will change. STUDENT - DEL, GND and TWR only. (No Change)SENIOR STUDENT - APP/DEP, in addition to STUDENT positions.CONTROLLER - CTR, in addition to SENIOR STUDENT positions.SENIOR CONTROLLER - FSS, in addition to CONTROLLER positions. The VATNZ Board believes that this new system will be fairer and will encourage Controllers to study and work on a smaller skill set each step of the process to increase the area they can control with each promotion. It will mean that an [Mod - Happy Thoughts]essment can also concentrate on that skill set more closely. It would also [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist inexperienced Controllers in not providing an extended coverage service when they don't yet have the experience to provide such coverage. As there will be a number of VATNZ Controllers affected by this change, the VATNZ has agreed to a three month "transition period" so as not to disadvantage any Controller. The transition policy is: 1. All CURRENT Senior Students will be permitted to provide CTR services for a period of up to 3 months from the date of the new policy during which time they will need to apply for a Controller Promotion should they wish to continue providing CTR services. If they have not applied by the expiration of the 3 month period, they will be deemed to fall under 2. below. 2. Any CURRENT Senior Students who do not wish to provide CTR services will have no obligation to undergo any further [Mod - Happy Thoughts]essment and will be permitted to provide APP and DEP services at any time. 3. All CURRENT Senior Students who successfully p[Mod - Happy Thoughts] an [Mod - Happy Thoughts]essment at CTR level as per 1. above will be awarded their CTR Rating when they have logged more than 50 hours at a Senior Student level. 4. All CURRENT Senior Students who have an VATSIM Oceania Region Oceanic Endorsement will be awarded the Senior Controller rating when they have logged more than 50 hours at a Senior Student Level as per 3. above AND THEN a further 50 hours at Controller level (100 hours total) but will be permitted to provide Oceanic Services no matter what rating they hold. 5. Any NEW Controllers [Mod - Happy Thoughts]essed at Senior Student level after the implementation of this policy will be restricted to provide services on APP or DEP only. The formal policy can be found HERE. In order that Controllers will know the [Mod - Happy Thoughts]essment criteria for each level, Leon Gibbs, the VATNZ Director - Training has prepared a Training Syllabus for each promotion level. These can be found as follows: STUDENT SENIOR STUDENT CONTROLLER We have prepared a FLOWCHART FOR SENIOR STUDENTS to make it clearer as to the steps they need to undertake with the new ratings system.
