Lennart Vedin Posted February 17, 2005 at 03:25 PM Posted February 17, 2005 at 03:25 PM Q1. When should I change between QFE and standard altimeter setting. Is it indicated by ATC, by say or not say "flight level" ? Is it a standard transition level ? Is it written transition level at charts (how do you write transition in Russian language) ? Q2. When I fly into / out from Russia, should I then include cruise level change in my flightplan. Example FL350, then change to 10100M / 10600M then change to FL360. How to write this in flightplan ? You should change between 1013mb and QFE when p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing Transition Level (Ðшелон Перехода in Russian). Usually it's shown at charts like TL1500 or ÐП1500 - it means 1500 meters. Sometimes you can find "TL by ATC" at charts, but if there's no ATC in area you're flying, then change altimeter settings at 1500m. Q2. When I fly into / out from Russia, should I then include cruise level change in my flightplan. Example FL350, then change to 10100M / 10600M then change to FL360. How to write this in flightplan ? A2. For examle, you fly into Russia from west via RATIN intersection and change from FL350 to 10100. Then you should put in FP: RATIN/S1010M079 - "S" means flight levels in tens meters, "M" means speed in Mach. You should maintain 10100m BEFORE crossing RATIN. When you fly back, you should type: RATIN/FL360M079 and leave 10600 to reach FL360 AFTER p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ing RATIN. May this or next weekend... (need to get charts/sceneries first) Best regards, Jörg PS: I need to find out the RVSM leaving point the route that the route finder gave me - it probably would be SORLA? Beverley Howard-Smith 8396 Posted February 20, 2005 at 02:20 AM Posted February 20, 2005 at 02:20 AM I wondered if any other country does not generally use QFE anymore. New Zealand does not use it, and QNH of 1013.2 is used above transition Level which is FL150. We have transition altidude of 13000ft Beverley

(need to get charts/sceneries first) PS: I need to find out the RVSM leaving point the route that the route finder gave me - it probably would be SORLA? You must leave RVSM when it's 20 km to non-RVSM airspace left and you must maintain metric flightlevel before crossing Russian border. When fly out of Russia leave metric FL after crossing Russian border and maintain RVSM FL before you get 20 km away from border. So, as you can see, there's no any special intersection for leaving RVSM, there's 20 km wide area inside RVSM-airspace next to it's boundary.
