Gabriel Adei Posted May 25, 2007 at 02:26 PM Posted May 25, 2007 at 02:26 PM Has anyone upgraded the CPU of a Dell computer or for that matter the CPU of any original "OEM" built computer? I am thinking about taking the leap of faith on this and need some opinions if its at all possible. I have upgraded the memory, the GPU now I am thinking of touching the CPU. I currently have a P4 2.4GHz 533 FSB in my Dell Dimension 4550. Here is what I am thinking. I am thinking the mother board in my Dell dimension will probably be a 533/800FSB (Dell dont tell u this for fear u upgrade without buying the parts from them). There are some cool looking CPUs out there. Im eying this P4 3.4Ghz 800 FSB 2MB L2 Cache. Now the question is like the memory and GPU that I upgraded, do I just buy this and throw it in as well? Or since the original 2.4 is a 533 FSB I shd stick to a 533 FSB with a higher clock speed. In that case there is a 3.06GHz 533 FSB 1MB L2 Cache. Does it work this way in upgrading a CPU. I have gotten about 4yrs out of this comp and want to squeeze it till it drops but Dell makes it impossible to OC their CPUs so I was thinking about upgrading. Thx in advance for your responses.
