Richard McDonald Woods Posted May 29, 2007 at 11:00 AM Posted May 29, 2007 at 11:00 AM I am also having problems with vroute (v1.0.4.12) this morning. It appears that the link to the VATSIM server is not working for everything except the All Pilots and All Controllers windows. - there are no numbers against any of the countries in the Who's Online window - only some flights are listed for countries in Who's Online, and these appear to be from a previous time (last evening, UTC?). The flights are not the same as those currently listed by ServInfo. - country and region maps contain no flights Cheers, Richard Cheers, Richard You are the music, until the music stops. Mark Richards Posted May 29, 2007 at 04:49 PM Posted May 29, 2007 at 04:49 PM As per http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=19808 Michal is away for a couple of weeks with limited Internet access so we may all have to be patient I'm afraid. Michal has done such a wonderful job with vroute he deserves this break. Mark Richards (811451) Auckland, New Zealand
Marc Wheeler Posted May 29, 2007 at 06:43 PM Posted May 29, 2007 at 06:43 PM I agree that he has done a great job on vRoute and at he has surp[Mod - Happy Thoughts]ed everyones excpectations. However, if you are going to offer a service such as vRoute, there should be someone to look after it while he takes a well deserved vacation. I am not trying to put down his hard work or dedication and he is entitled to vacation, however, if vRoute is to become mainstream, someone should be around to repair glitches such as this, otherwise I am afraid this will deter other pilots from using what is a fantastic product. My two cents... VATSIM: P1|C3
Wayne Conrad 989233 Posted May 30, 2007 at 07:43 AM Posted May 30, 2007 at 07:43 AM (edited) Marc, I hope Michal takes your impatience as a compliment--look how quickly vRoute became "required equipment." ServeInfo still works for many of the functions that vRoute performs. Consider it a backup to vRoute, and you'll find the waiting easier. Suleman Sidat 895929 Posted May 30, 2007 at 02:04 PM Posted May 30, 2007 at 02:04 PM He should take it as a compliment. I agree with Marc though.. and also it seems like vroute is back up for me!
Marc Wheeler Posted May 30, 2007 at 02:50 PM Posted May 30, 2007 at 02:50 PM It is a compliment and I hope everyone takes in that context. My point is simply that I would prefer to use vroute and not to have ServInfo as a backup. In order to do that there has to be a certain amount of reliability. 100% uptime? Of course not, but for the service only to be partially working for days at a time... not so sure that in not a reasonable request. Michal Rok Posted June 11, 2007 at 03:37 PM Posted June 11, 2007 at 03:37 PM Indeed during my vacation one morning I realized that something went wrong with the process of fetching VATSIM data and vroute.info went down. The problem was fixed within 1 hour of this discovery and I realized how much i needed my laptop to be with me Michal ps. actually, many important day-to-day duties were taken over by Robert Ogden (thanks!) but this one was so deep in the roots of server operation that it could hardly be fixed with someone without unix programming skills and deep understanding of how vroute works. vroute.net founder
