Karen Dunbar 1002434 Posted June 24, 2007 at 03:46 AM Posted June 24, 2007 at 03:46 AM This Friday nights’ FNO was really about east and west. Kansas City and St. Louis drew traffic from all over the US, and split the traffic almost evenly. A number of clever pilots took advantage of having two fully staffed airports close together and filed flightplan after flightplan, circling between the two hosts. Those pilots certainly piled up the “full ATC†Karen Dunbar Events Director VATUSA
Andrew Musselman Posted June 24, 2007 at 11:53 PM Posted June 24, 2007 at 11:53 PM Pretty good job by KC. I can see me there 0AM coming in from Chi-Town in the slow CJ1.
Mark Brummett Posted June 25, 2007 at 03:17 AM Posted June 25, 2007 at 03:17 AM It was pretty fun and uneventful by FNO standards. I had three definitive rushes as I worked MCI Tower. Each rush usually was about 8 to 10 aircraft down the line. Had some departures to STL which made things fun. Then, right before I closed down and we had several aircraft on the downwind segment, we had a pretty abrupt wind shift (from 200 @ 10 to 040 @ 29 gusting 38), so I'm switching ATIS and telling both my approach controllers to switch configurations. Both John Holt and Jason Helkenberg deserve a HUGE pat on the back for the way they vectored these guys back to the south to get north flow going, and had it done within 5 minutes. I will most likely start a weekly thing with another ZKC controller starting this week; we'll man two Cl[Mod - Happy Thoughts] D airports and focus on VFR work between the two, and work pattern work locally at the field.
