Moshe Mizrahi Posted October 12, 2007 at 10:44 PM Posted October 12, 2007 at 10:44 PM Hi All, I could really use some advice on this one: I am upgrading my FS desktop to be based on E6850, 8800GTX and 2G memory. I read some good references about using WinXP Pro-64 bit s/w, and my hardware supports it. I want to ask how it is to fly the FS9 and/or FSX under such configuration? Are there are any known issues with addons or SB3, AS, FSINN, FSUIPC...? Is it all compatible? Are there any guides, guidelines, tips etc. for flying with WinXP 64 bit ? Is there any recommended anti-virus / internet security software which is better and more transparent than others? Appreciate your answers! I don't think you would have any problems running your system with SB3 and FS9. At present (as mentioned in the PRC) FSX isn't supported by Squawkbox. I'm sure it will be soon as another programmer has joined the Squawkbox team. I'm not able to test the 64 bit environment. If you decide to try FSInn I can [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ist you with the steps and depend on your feedback of how it works. If you decide to try FSInn take a look at the first two messages in the FSInn Help forum, starting with: Announcement - Installing FSInn http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=20466 As far as which is smoother, if you're referring to the pilot clients, I believe they work equally well. If you are referring to the the Flight Simulator versions, I prefer FSX, but I believe FS9 is still more popular on VATSIM. -- L. James -- L. D. Moshe Mizrahi Posted October 13, 2007 at 05:10 AM Author Posted October 13, 2007 at 05:10 AM Thank you James I had all of these applications running with the 32 bits version, and my only concern is how will they operate under 64 bits enviroment. Do you know of any limitations (or different installation procedures) for flying in VATSIM with the 64 bits XP? Do you know of any limitations (or different installation procedures) for flying in VATSIM with the 64 bits XP? There are a number of users running under windows 64 without any problems. Follow the steps in the first message in the FSinn Help forum and describe the results. I'll do the research if you have any problems and advise you, and then hopefully have a definative procedure for any others. Please let me know if you have any problem at all before attempting to add modifications to the steps. -- L. James -- L. D.
