Victor Buck 923077 Posted October 27, 2007 at 10:47 PM Posted October 27, 2007 at 10:47 PM www.vatsim.net/prc that tells you everything you need to now michael I'm still a bit confused. I have been reading the PRC to get a handle on which software I would prefer (SB3 or FSinn) and the basics of flying online with VATSIM. I ran across this statement: After completing the flightplan: · On the connection software, i.e. SquawkBox or FSInn, select “STBY or Squawk Standby†"I'm a man...but I can change...if I have to...I guess" The Man's Prayer Red Green
Larry James 901346 Posted October 27, 2007 at 11:19 PM Posted October 27, 2007 at 11:19 PM Hi, Victor. Read the software link in the PRC. Take a another look at the topics. You're right about choosing one of the pilot clients. After you've chosen one, you'll see a setup section right there in the PRC. Follow the setup for the client you chose (as you mentioned, SB3 or FSInn). Then you'll use the button that you referred to in your message in the specific pilot client you elected to install. If you have a problem installing the one you selected, post your question about the client either as a follow up of your thread here, or in one of the client help forum areas. You'll see a forum for Squawkbox and a Forum for FSInn. -- L. James -- L. D. Matt Russell 1032293 Posted October 29, 2007 at 05:24 PM Posted October 29, 2007 at 05:24 PM I guess I'm in the same boat as the OP. I have everything set up correctly but I still have a few questions: 1. Do I need to be in a multiplayer game when I connect through FSInn or can I be in Free Flight mode? 2. When I connect to VATSIM am I connecting to a hosted multiplayer server with other people using VATSIM? 3. Do I need to use FSX multiplayer screens at all to be in the VATSIM world or does VATSIM and FSInn take care of this for me? I keep thinking I should be seeing other VATSIM AC when I connect and here voice transmissions but I hear none of that. I understand though that I might not be in an area where ATC and other pilots are at that very moment. Also, I can increase my radar distance and still never see any AC. These are just a couple things that make me wonder if I am doing everything correctly. Thanks

Larry James 901346 Posted October 29, 2007 at 09:33 PM Posted October 29, 2007 at 09:33 PM I guess I'm in the same boat as the OP. I have everything set up correctly but I still have a few questions: 1. Do I need to be in a multiplayer game when I connect through FSInn or can I be in Free Flight mode? As long as you use the pilot client, the other modes doesn't matter. 2. When I connect to VATSIM am I connecting to a hosted multiplayer server with other people using VATSIM? The whole purpose of VATSIM is to be online at the same time with other pilots and controlers. Check out a program call Servinfo. You'll find the download link and setup in the PRC. You can use it to actually see where other pilots and ATC are located in the world. 3. Do I need to use FSX multiplayer screens at all to be in the VATSIM world or does VATSIM and FSInn take care of this for me? See answer #1 I keep thinking I should be seeing other VATSIM AC when I connect and here voice transmissions but I hear none of that. I understand though that I might not be in an area where ATC and other pilots are at that very moment. Also, I can increase my radar distance and still never see any AC. These are just a couple things that make me wonder if I am doing everything correctly. Thanks If you don't see other pilots and controllers, they might not be in the vicinity where you are. You can use the program I mentioned above to see which airports are populated. Use that in conjunction with the "First Flight" section in the PRC. Take a look at the first message in the FSInn Support forum and verify that you've done everything exactly as described and you won't have any problems in the pilot client department: Announcement - Installing FSInn http://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?t=20466 There's also a link to the announcement message in the PRC. By the way, it would help a little if you would do some of the steps in the PRC and describe which parts are giving you problems. -- L. James -- L. D. I believe if you did the steps in the "PRC" under "First Flight" the experience would be worth lots more than just words. By the way, I didn't mention to make sure you're parked at a gate away from runways and taxiways because I asked you to do the "First Flight" in the PRC and that's already mentioned there. Again, if you would do some of steps in the PRC, and ask us questions where you get lost, I believe you'd start to gain a grasp of what VATSIM is about much quicker. -- L. James -- L. D.
