Matthew Kreilein 881422 Posted November 28, 2007 at 03:17 AM Posted November 28, 2007 at 03:17 AM Not sure who's the SB guru around VATSIM; however, there's an "issue" that may hold up ATC Training. On 1/1/08 we're all going to the new Global Ratings Standard adopted by the EC. However, it seems that the VATSIM SB server is set up to only allow C1 and above to host a session for training purposes. A lot of ARTCC/FIR/VACC's have Mentors at the S3 level that host DEL-TWR SB sessions. Once promotion to C1 is limited to CTR only, we're gonna have a LOT of Mentors than can't really do anything. Wondering if VATSIM has any plans to open up the SB server to S3 or is there any way we can open it to particular CID's or something? Aaron Barclay 878822 Posted December 2, 2007 at 05:15 PM Posted December 2, 2007 at 05:15 PM last I checked/knew, only instructors should have the program (that's an I1 or I3 rating in case you didn't know). Why are mentors teaching?
Daniel Doorgakant Posted December 2, 2007 at 05:27 PM Posted December 2, 2007 at 05:27 PM Sweatbox would seem more of a piece of fun, rather than teaching equipment. If everything is going to be lowered then why do we have ratings? I think it should be kept to C1 and above because of the standards.
Andrew Carr 812404 Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:06 AM Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:06 AM Relaxing the SB server restrictions is being discussed, yes. Ross, Does this include giving consideration to allowing people with an OBS (level 1) rating to connect to the Sweatbox server in a valid control position? This would allow divisions to both train & [Mod - Happy Thoughts]ess their members prior to issuing the Student (or soon-to-be-TWR) rating. I queried this about a year ago and at the time it was not possible; although I don't know whether that was for technical or policy reasons. Daniel Doorgakant Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:20 AM Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:20 AM That's abit of an extreme, they should start their training as Student, S1.
Ross Carlson Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:26 AM Posted December 6, 2007 at 07:26 AM Yes, Andrew, that is being considered, as part of the new policy roll out. No decision has been made yet.
