Michael Smith Posted December 7, 2007 at 10:43 PM Author Posted December 7, 2007 at 10:43 PM Paul, I sent him a e-mail already and looked on ZSE roster and I'm still on. I have a good feeling this is a fake e-mail

Garrett Wiedmeier 954546 Posted December 8, 2007 at 01:39 AM Posted December 8, 2007 at 01:39 AM This was not a hack of our server (at least ZSE's server). A spoof maybe, which we can't control. The email, as indicated in the post, was sent from: [email protected] So this is run-of-the-mill "standard" spam (Remember: email has no security. Never trust any email unless you were explicitely expecting to receive it) No need for alarm. Just follow standard email precautions and be careful. Anybody can be anybody in an email. It's the easiest thing to do. But good to always check like this... _________________ Garrett Wiedmeier Seattle ARTCC C1, ZSE Webmaster http://www.gmwnet.com/ Garrett Wiedmeier ZSE ATM http://www.seaartcc.net/
Steve Ogrodowski 876322 Posted December 8, 2007 at 05:19 AM Posted December 8, 2007 at 05:19 AM Something similar has happened to me before: I misspelled some PHP code in one of my scripts that would send an e-mail to our staff members on certain events. Well, that caused the "Sender" information to include the Host name instead of the Domain name, so the e-mail you got was from: "master (at) host****(dot)***(dot) com" when it should have been "master (at) zobartcc (dot) org" So a couple of our staff members frantically e-mailed me asking who that was, and whether we had a hacker, etc...when in fact, the e-mails really did just originate from our web server as they were supposed to, just without the normal Domain name extension. It was kind of funny. Now, if you see "[email protected]"...well then you might wanna be very careful. Steve Ogrodowski
