Mark Richards Posted January 27, 2008 at 09:02 PM Posted January 27, 2008 at 09:02 PM My thanks to everyone who participated last night and celebrated 12 months of VATNZ. I think the idea of concentrating real world operations on one airport worked really well, especially using Wellington because it meant that there were arrivals coming in from all different directions which meant some work by the CTR guys to sequence them before they got to me on APP. For some interesting statistics have a look at http://www.vataware.com/airport.cfm?airport=NZWN Overall in the 6hr 45min I was logged on as NZWN_APP I saw 58 aircraft and tracked 42 of them, which was excellent and the busiest I have been for ages. I took a ton of screenshots and I've brought them to work today to edit and will post them up a bit later on. Thanks to the Controllers who put in some serious hours for the night. NZCH-A_CTR - Tom Green - 4hr 54min NZCH-W_CTR - Jason Epps-Eades - 5hr 09min NZCH-S_CTR - Ray Lang - 9hr 06min (AWESOME EFFORT!) NZWN_APP - Mark Richards - 6hr 45min NZWN_TWR - Andrew Moseley - 3hr 55min (Stepped in at last minute - due to a Controller not making it) NZWN_GND - Gareth Robinson - 5hr 48min Thanks to Leon for providing me some interesting work sequencing circuit traffic in amongst the IFR arrivals, that made it all that more realistic. Matthew, good work thinking outside the square and doing some VFR operations amongst the traffic and meaning I only had a black "hour gl[Mod - Happy Thoughts]" VFR target bouncing around the skies while I was watching what the IFR RPT traffic was doing. Excellent that we had a few overseas visitors who came and joined in as well. Special thanks must go to our Deputy Director, Jason Epps-Eades for researching the real world operations of Wellington airport for the actual flights occuring during the event, and for coordinating the Flight and ATC Bids. Superb work Jase, it was awesome and you can be very proud of what you achieved. All in all a FANTASTIC night in my eyes!
