Just got FSX Deluxe Edition and tried it out. I cannot run any settings higher than about "Low" or at the maximum "Medium Low" without the program lagging significantly.

As for my PC specs:

2.93GHz Pentium 4

1MB L2 Cache (dunno how what this does if anything at all)

120GB Hard Drive

Integrated Intel GMA 900 Graphics with up to 128MB dynamic video memory.

Tried SP1 for FSX. There is some slight improvement, but hardly noticeable really.

After playing the game and exiting it, my computer gives me the following warning message:

"Windows Virtual Memory Critically Low - Windows is attempting to boost/increase local RAM".

Would a 256MB Graphics card do? Or should I push for a 512MB?

Would appreciate the help.

Cheers

Russ

Russ,

SP2 for FSX is out there and significantly improves frame rates over the default.

The memory error you are seeing is down to the system RAM rather than video RAM. Really the only way around this is to free up resources - stop unnecessary programs. Ideally get more physical RAM.

FSXm like all of the titles in the series, is more dependant on your processor than your graphics card. That said, whilst 128MB may run, I personally wouldnt want to be trying it. 256MB is ok and 512MB much better.

I've already got SP2 for FSX installed and running, and it has really improved the game much at all (i can barely notice any difference). As for starting the game, it now takes a much longer time to go from the splash screen to the main menu because the game always has to reload the new SP2 data. Sometimes, after getting SP2, it reinstalls the game with the new components and that takes a good 20-30minutes.

I installed FSX and SP2 (I hope I got rid of all the components), and reinstalled FSX on its own. I've stopped virtually all other programs running in the background, except for the very essentials, and that probably was the best in terms of improvement to the game in comparison with FSX_SP2.

On another forum, many have told me that they had the same problem and that a new graphics card (256/512MB PCI-E) would do the trick, and that upgrading the DDR RAM (my PC doesn't support DDR2) is the next step to take. They said after doing both, the game should be unreal and i should get close to maximum performance.

If you are not the solution, you are the problem!

This is your problem. GMA 900 is not sufficient for any reasonably stressful 3D app. Time for a new video card.

512. Graphics card change so fast, you want to buy the best you can afford (and your machine will support) so it will last as long as possible.

I've found a 512MB PCI-E 8600GT for a reasonable price at a store near me, so hopefully they have one in stock when I go there later this week. It's about $129 Australian dollars. so fairly reasonable in price.

I'm also possibly looking to upgrade my RAM. I currently have 512MB 400MHz DDR (PC3200). I have a total of 4 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets on my motherboard, and I beleive either 2 or possibly 3 are free. I'm probably looking towards getting a 1GB PC3200 400MHz DDR to add to the RAM I already have installed.

Would that further help my cause?
